Delivering real estate services during Ontario’s State of Emergency requires Ontario REALTORS® to think of their services in two ways: “essential” and “non-essential”. The Government’s simple definition of “essential” thus far has been “services required to close a transaction.” Therefore, if you are not closing a transaction, all of your services should be conducted remotely or using technological alternatives.
However, we understand that there are a variety of situations where you are not closing a transaction, but your clients are relying on you to sell their home or find another one during this time. There is no clear answer for all situations. Work with your clients to help them understand the importance of following current directives from health authorities and the risks that come with in-person meetings and work to reduce or eliminate direct physical interaction.
As REALTORS® and community leaders, we must do our part to help limit the spread of COVID-19.
